Brief Bio
Dr. Dario Guastella received his PhD at the University of Catania, Italy, in 2019. Since January 2022 he is Assistant Professor at the Dep. of Electrical Electronic and Computer Engineering of the University of Catania. His research activity is carried out within the Robotic Systems Group and focuses on cooperative mobile robots (both ground and aerial vehicles), terrain traversability analysis and Artificial Intelligence for autonomous navigation.

Brief Bio
Simone Palazzo is Assistant Professor at Università degli Studi di Catania. His research interests include machine learning, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition, with particular focus on computer vision, medical imaging, explainable AI and bio-inspired methods for machine learning. He is author of more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers, with a h-index of 23 and 2200+ citations (Scopus). He took part of national (PO-FESR 2014/2020) and international (EU-FP7, H2020) projects.

Dr. Ignacio Carlucho is an assistant professor in the school of engineering and physical sciences at Heriot-Watt University, UK. From 2020 to 2021 he was a Post-doctoral Researcher in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at Louisiana State University, and from 2021 to 2023 he was a Post-doctoral researcher at the School of Informatics in the University of Edinburgh, UK. His main research interests are robotics, intelligent control techniques and multi agent systems.

Brief Bio
Dr. Giuseppe Sutera received his PhD from the University of Catania, Italy in 2022. Since June 2023 he is Assistant Professor at the Dep. of Electrical Electronic and Computer Engineering of the University of Catania. He has been collaborating with the Robotic Systems Group and focuses on the development of cooperative ground and aerial mobile robotic platforms.

SCOPE
Learning paradigms have played a crucial role in robotics and control over the years, ranging from supervised to reinforcement learning. Over the last decade, this role has received a significant momentum thanks to the rapid progress in parallel computing, leading to the breakthrough of deep learning. Recent works report impressive results also in challenging real-world applications, from vision-based control to multi-agent systems. The aim of this special session is to gather such achievements in control and robotic systems applications in a wide spectrum of scenarios, from automation and industry to automotive and farming.
